Biographical data
Szülei Borbély József János és Hiros Julianna voltak, két testvére született. Középiskolai tanulmányait a váci piaristáknál végezte. 1921. augusztus 13-án, Szegeden lépett be a rendbe, ahol 1924-1926 között bölcseletet 1929-1932 között Innsbruckban teológiát tanult. Itt szentelték pappá 1931. július 26-án. A terciát 1938-ban Franciaországban, Amiens-ben végezte el. Végső fogdalmait 1939. február 2-án tette le. 1943 és 1948 között a tartományfőnöki feladatokat is ellátta. 1948. december 7-én a kommunista rendőrség megjelent a budapesti jezsuita rendházban, és alaposan átkutatta azt. Nem találtak semmit, de barátain keresztül megtudta, hogy a rendőrség rövid időn belül letartóztatni szándékozik. Ennek következtében 1948. december 9-én elhagyta Budapestet, és bujkálni kényszerült, illegálisan élve az ország különböző jezsuita rendházaiban, folyamatosan menekülve a kommunisták elől, akik keresték őt. Az osztrák határt illegálisan lépte át 1949. január 14-én éjszaka, rendfőnöki engedéllyel, miután kinevezte utódját. 1949-1951 között bölcseletet tanított Chieri-ben, majd 1952-ben kivándorolt Kanadába. 1977-ben agyvérzést szenvedett el, ami miatt kommunikációs képességét elveszítette.
