Biographical data
Az amerikai magyarok apostola. Az első – a letelepedés céljával érkezett – magyar római katolikus pap. Születési neve Böehm. Apja Böehm Károly, anyja Urbanszky Julianna. Tizen voltak testvérek, egyik huga apáca lett. Gimnáziumi tanulmányait Selmecbányán végezte, majd, már mint kisszeminarista Esztergomban érettségizett. A bécsi Pázmáneumban tanult, 1876. július 16-án szentelték pappá. Vaszary Kolos esztergomi érsek 1892-ben az USA-ba küldte. Érkezését (1892. szeptember 1.) tekintjük a magyar katolikus pasztoráció kezdetének. Szervezője az Egyesült Magyar Társaságnak. 1925-ben a magyarság iránti jótékonyság terén kifejtett tevékenységért a Vörös Kereszt érdemkeresztjét kapta meg. 1924-től pápai prelátus. Hatása évtizedekig érezhető volt az észak-amerikai magyar katolikus pasztorációra. Nagyjából húszra tehető az általa az USA-ba hívott, s segített papok száma. Pasztorációs alapelve (elsőként templomot kell építeni, nagy közösségi teremmel, majd iskolát, utána újságot alapítani, s végül magát a lelkészi épületet) számos tanítványának vált módszerévé.

Szent Erzsébet Hírnöke, 1894. okt. 24-én, a lap 1901-től Magyarok Vasárnapja címmel jelent meg – szerkesztő; Cikkei számos újságban jelentek meg.
