He was of Slovak origin. No comprehensive biographical information about him has survived. According to some sources, he studied in Košice.
By 1954, he was already living in Ottawa. In 1969, the Hungarian Servites left Ottawa, and according to records, Béla Somfai, SJ, and Ernő Bujdos, a Slovak-speaking Oblate priest, occasionally celebrated Mass in Hungarian for a short time thereafter.
