He was ordained a priest of the United Diocese of Oradea-Satu Mare on April 18, 1971, and was incardinated into the Diocese of Satu Mare on October 18, 1982. In addition to his other activities, he served as president of the Hungarian Caritas Service in Munich from 1985 to 2002, –1993 he served as president of the Paulinum Association (student residence) in Munich, and from 1990–1991 he was an associate professor at the Roman Catholic Theological College in Gyulafehérvár. From 1996 to 2006, he served as the European delegate of the Bishop for Hungarians living abroad; from 2002 to 2012, he was the Hungarian delegate to the German Bishops’ Conference and the chief chaplain for Hungarians in Germany; since 2006, he has been the coordinator of pastoral care for Hungarians abroad. He has been a papal chaplain since 2003 and a member of the Order of Malta since 2004. On June 15, 2007, he was appointed titular bishop of Centuria and auxiliary bishop of Esztergom-Budapest. He was consecrated bishop in Esztergom on August 15, 2007. He served as chairman of the Committee for Migrants and Travelers within the Caritas in Veritate Commission of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference. Between 2007 and 2023, he undertook numerous missionary trips to the United States and Canada. Pope Francis accepted his request for retirement on February 3, 2023.
