His mother is Hungarian and his father is of Slovak descent. On May 29, 1965, after many hardships and health problems, he was ordained a priest by James J. Navagh, D.D., Bishop of Paterson, at St. Philip the Apostle Church. He was a novice with the White Fathers, founded by Blessed Charles de Foucauld, but due to his health, he was unable to continue this ministry; however, he served as director of the Diocesan Mission Office for many years. He has been a Monsignor since 1989. He served as spiritual director of the Passaic-Clifton District Council of Catholic Women until its dissolution in 2014. He was a talented musician who played the accordion, piano, and guitar.
