Biographical data
His parents were József Deutsch and Anna Schneider; he had nine siblings. He arrived in the United States at the age of four. He entered the Benedictine Order on August 28, 1897. He completed his studies in America at St. John’s University, and then in Rome at the University of St. Anselm. He earned a doctorate in philosophy. He was ordained a priest on May 24, 1902. He was elected the fifth abbot of St. John’s Abbey on December 29, 1921. He served as abbot until October 19, 1950. He was a supporter of the Hungarian Benedictines in South America.
