Biographical data
He began his secondary education at the Benedictine high school in Kőszeg, and after four years, he graduated from the Benedictine high school in Esztergom as a minor seminarian in 1934. He studied theology in Vienna as a student at the Pázmáneum. He was ordained a priest in Vienna on July 9, 1939. In 1948, he earned a doctorate in theology. In 1948, he received instructions from József Mindszenty to flee to the West immediately, as the secret police were preparing to arrest him due to his work among the youth. On November 3, 1948, he crossed the border near his hometown and traveled first to Vienna, then to Salzburg, where he was entrusted with the spiritual care of refugees. He arrived in the United States on July 16, 1949. Toward the end of his life, he suffered from increasingly severe diabetes, which caused him to lose his toes and led to hearing loss. His grave is located at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery in Northampton, PA, next to his friend, Father Ferenc Gilly.
