Biographical data
His parents were Antal Eifried, a day laborer, and Salome Ripp. He changed his surname to “Egres” under Ministry of the Interior permit no. 2830/1943.
He was a student at the Cistercian high school in Baja. He entered the Cistercian Order on August 29, 1938, in Zirc. He took his first vows on August 30, 1939, and his solemn vows on April 5, 1944. He was ordained a priest on May 17, 1944, by Bishop József Mindszenty of Veszprém.
From 1944 to 1947, he studied German language and literature at Pázmány Péter Royal University, where he earned his doctorate. As a displaced person of German nationality, he left the country in 1949 and moved to the United States.
He served as one of the Congregation’s delegates at the 1953 General Chapter.
He transferred his vow of stability to the Dallas monastery on April 21, 1961.
In 1970, he was diagnosed with cancer but was declared symptom-free. In May 1979, his cancer recurred. He passed away after much suffering.

His grave was previously located at Calvary Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Dallas, TX, and was later moved to the Abbey Mausoleum in Irving, TX in 2017
