Biographical data
His father was Jenő Berecz, a priest, and his mother was Mária Homicskó. He was a married pastor; his wife was Anna Medvesky, whom he married on February 26, 1903. He pursued his theological studies in Eperjes. He was ordained a priest on December 6, 1903, by Bishop Gyula Firczák of Munkács. He arrived in the United States on June 8, 1910. In 1914, he returned to the Diocese of Munkács, but according to sources, he left for the United States again shortly thereafter. From 1938 to 1939, he served as dean of the deanery in New York, NY.
