He was ordained a priest in Lisle, IL, on July 23, 1944. In 1978, he became a papal prelate. In his diocese, he served as a judge of the matrimonial tribunal, a diocesan advisor, and chairman of the diocesan committee on architecture and sacred art. In 1977, he requested retirement due to vision problems.
