Biographical data
His father was Ferenc Burg, his mother was Helena Pettko, and he had fifteen siblings. He completed his secondary education at the Piarist High School in Trenčín. He was ordained a priest on September 10, 1829.
In 1838, he left his post and announced his intention to leave the priesthood and convert to the Reformed Church, which caused a national scandal.
Two years later, he repented and announced that, as an act of penance, he would go to the United States as a missionary. He arrived in New York, NY, on the ship Z Ring on October 19, 1841.
He was one of the first Hungarian missionaries in the United States, as well as the first to die there, and he is buried there. His remains were originally buried near the old church in Cemetery No. 1, from where Reverend William Longinus later had them moved to the base of the cross in Cemetery No. 2 in Yorkville. In 1883, he was reburied once again.
