Biographical data
His father was János Gebé, and his mother was Julianna Krajnyik. His wife was Emilia Soltész, and they had one son. He pursued his theological studies in Pest, Esztergom, and Ungvár. On March 31, 1878, he was ordained a priest by János Pásztélyi Kovács, Bishop of Munkács. From 1890, he served as titular archdeacon; from 1892, as a member of the Holy Synod. In 1898, he emigrated to the United States at the request of the faithful in Hazleton, PA, but shortly thereafter traveled to Russia, where he converted to the Orthodox faith. He then served as an Orthodox priest in Minneapolis, MN. In 1904, he sought forgiveness from the Bishop of Munkács and asked to be readmitted to the Greek Catholic Church, but according to sources, this request was motivated solely by political reasons; he then returned to Hungary. In 1909, he became practically blind. He had distanced himself from the Orthodox Church, but had not yet been readmitted to the Greek Catholic Church, so he was buried by a Reformed pastor.
