From 1922 to 1930, he attended elementary school in Szentpéterfa, and then studied at the Benedictine High School and Boarding School in Kőszeg. He studied philosophy at the Jesuit University in Innsbruck, Austria, and upon returning to the United States, he began theological studies at St. Charles Seminary in Overbrook. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1936. According to Attila Miklósházy, he did not really participate in Hungarian pastoral work.
