Biographical data
He emigrated to the United States in 1910 with his parents, János Hegedűs and Mária Tóth. He had seven siblings. He grew up in the Hungarian community in Toledo, OH; his bishop specifically intended him for the spiritual care of Hungarians. He completed his theological studies in Cincinnati, Innsbruck, and Budapest. He was ordained a priest in Budapest in 1930.
