Biographical data

He is a second-generation Hungarian. His parents were József János Kovács and Erzsébet Dávid Rózsa; he had one brother, László Gyula Kovács, who served as organist at St. Stephen’s Church in Allentown. He completed his studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum. He was ordained a priest on April 30, 1944, by Cardinal Amieto Cicognani, Apostolic Delegate.
