Biographical data
His parents were János Laurisin, a Greek Catholic priest and a priest in the National Guard during the 1848–49 War of Independence, and Emília Ilniczky; he had five siblings. His younger brother was Kornél Laurisin, a Greek Catholic priest. His wife was Cecília Riskó; they had three children. One of his sons, Ágoston, died in forced labor; his other son was János, and his daughter was Olga, who was the wife of parish priest József Damjanovich. He pursued his theological studies in Uzhhorod. He was ordained a priest on September 26, 1886, by János Pásztélyi Kovács, Bishop of Munkács. In 1892, he emigrated to the United States, from where he returned home in 1898. For several years in America, he was unable to obtain a license to minister, as American bishops were opposed to married Greek Catholic priests. Because of this, he was subjected to constant insults. He brought a valuable mineral collection with him from America, which he donated to the school in Uzhhorod. From 1919, he served as honorary dean.
