Biographical data
His family emigrated to the United States in 1904. He was the brother of János Loya. He was a married pastor. His wife was Margit Boksay; they had seventeen children, one of whom, István Loya, became a priest. He completed his theological studies in Baltimore (St. Mary’s Seminary, 1919–1920), in Allegany (St. Bonaventure Seminary, 1920–1921), and in Uzhhorod (1921–1923). Diocesan Bishop István Miklósy ordained him as a priest of the Diocese of Hajdúdorog in Nyíregyháza on October 21, 1923. After his ordination, he returned to the United States.
