He served in the professional military from August 20, 1974, to July 31, 1979, and from April 1, 1985, to September 1, 2005 (during the intervening period, he was in the reserves). He was ordained a priest in Máriapócs on August 6, 1999, for the Diocese of Hajdúdorog. He is a married pastor. His wife is Ilona Kovács; his children are Eszter and Ferenc. From 1999 to 2011, he was assigned to the Catholic Military Ordinariate. From 2005 to 2008, he served in Canada. With ritual permission, he also ministered to Roman Catholic faithful. In 2011, he was incardinated into the Catholic Military Diocese. He has been on retirement since September 1, 2015.
