Ferenc Mák was born on July 15, 1952, in Nyírábrány. He is a married Greek Catholic priest; his wife is Ilona Kovács, and their children are Eszter and Ferenc. He began his professional military service on August 20, 1974. He served on active duty until July 31, 1979; he was then in the reserves from 1979 to 1985; and from April 1, 1985, he served again as an active-duty soldier. During his military career, he was promoted to second lieutenant in 1974, first lieutenant in 1978, captain in 1989, major in 1993, lieutenant colonel in 1996, and colonel in 2001.

His calling to the priesthood emerged in the early 1990s, while he was already a lieutenant colonel, serving as an officer in the fuel supply service. With the permission of his military superiors, he began his theological studies with the goal of serving as a military chaplain in the newly formed Field Chaplaincy Service. On August 6, 1999, he was ordained a Greek Catholic priest in Máriapócs for the Diocese of Hajdúdorog, and was subsequently assigned to the service of the Catholic Field Bishopric.

From September 1, 1999, to September 30, 2001, he served as episcopal secretary of the Catholic Military Bishopric; and from October 1, 2001, to August 31, 2005, he served as Greek Catholic Field Dean. He served with the rank of colonel and was placed on military retirement on September 1, 2005.

Following his retirement, he served in Canada from 2005 to 2008 as parish priest and pastor of the Hungarian Greek Catholic communities in Courtland and London. His ministry was not limited to Hungarian parishioners; he also served English-speaking Catholic communities.

In 2011, he was incardinated into the Military Ordinariate. Since 2015, he has served as a judge on the Metropolitan Court of Hajdúdorog, while also providing auxiliary pastoral care at the Greek Catholic Parish of Buda. The official website of the Buda parish still lists him as a minister of the community in 2026.

On August 6, 2024, he celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood at the Greek Catholic Church in Buda. The motto for his silver jubilee was taken from Psalm 138: “From the depths of my heart I bless you, Lord, for you have heard the plea of my lips.”
