Biographical data
He completed his high school studies in Győr, Pozsony, and Nagyszombat. He studied theology in Vienna. He was ordained a priest on July 14, 1914. In 1932, he was awarded the Signum Laudis medal. He was one of the main organizers of the 1938 World Eucharistic Congress. In 1930, he became an honorary canon; from 1938, a papal prelate; and from April 22, 1944, a protonotary and master canon. In December 1943, he was one of the Vatican’s nominees for the episcopal see of Csanád, but he did not support the appointment of Jusztinián Serédi. From 1923 to 1945, he was a member of the Budapest Metropolitan Municipal Council, and from 1942 to 1944, a member of the Upper House. In 1948, he fled to the West to avoid arrest; in his absence, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was a member of the Hungarian National Committee, formed on July 21, 1949, to represent Hungarian émigrés.
