Biographical data
Mihály Bíró (Michael J. Biro) C.S.C. was born on October 5, 1863, in Szikszó. In 1893, he emigrated to the United States, where he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross. He was ordained a priest in Washington on February 8, 1900. That same year, he was entrusted with organizing the Hungarian Catholic community in South Bend, where he founded St. Stephen’s Hungarian Parish. In 1907, he left South Bend; thereafter, he served at the Hungarian parish of St. Elizabeth of the House of Árpád in Buffalo. In 1909, he returned to Hungary. He served as a pastor in Zámoly, Sáros, and Sukoró. It was likely at this time that he was incardinated into the Diocese of Székesfehérvár. He retired in 1938. He passed away in Hungary on March 5, 1941.
