Imre Olkó, known in the United States as James Francis Olko, was born on July 26, 1906, in Newark, New Jersey. He came from a family of Hungarian descent; his father was Ferenc András Olkó. His family later lived in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, where he belonged to the Holy Family parish community, which had Polish roots. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on June 19, 1932. His first known assignment was at St. Michael Parish in Braddock, and from 1932 to 1935 he served at Assumption Parish in Leechburg. He then became an assistant pastor at St. Adalbert Parish in Pittsburgh. In 1939, he was assigned to Holy Family Parish in Lawrenceville, where he also served as an assistant pastor. In 1945, he was appointed pastor of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Carnegie. He led the parish for thirty-eight years, until his retirement in 1983. He continued to live in the Diocese of Pittsburgh after his retirement. He passed away on June 9, 1994, at the age of 87. He was buried at Saint Mary Cemetery in Carnegie.
