Biographical data
His father was Viktor Popovics, a priest, and his mother was Mária Hrabár. He pursued his theological studies in Uzhhorod. He was ordained a priest while still unmarried on December 19, 1908, by Gyula Firczák, Bishop of Munkács. He was a cousin of József Kovalchik (Kovalcsik, Smitson, Schmitson), who served in the United States. He served in the United States beginning in 1914. He passed away at the Norwich State Sanatorium after a long illness.
