Biographical data
His father was János Popovics, a priest; his mother was Teréz Lengyel. His wife was Mária Hrabár; his three known sons—Péter (1881–1920), Miklós (1886–1918), and Viktor (1881–1956)—also became priests, with the eldest having served in the United States as well. He pursued his theological studies in Uzhhorod. On September 26, 1880, he was ordained a priest by János Pásztélyi Kovács, Bishop of Munkács. He served in the United States from 1901 to 1903.
