Biographical data
His parents were János and Anna Rakaczky. He entered the Basilian Order on May 12, 1948. After the Order was dissolved, he studied at the seminary in Eger and then in Nyíregyháza, but was expelled in 1952 at the government’s behest. From 1952 onward, he served in the military. In 1956, on the bishop’s orders, he left the country and completed his studies in Rome, where he was ordained a priest. On June 29, 1960, Archbishop Ivan Buchko ordained him a priest. In 1961, he earned a licentiate in theology. In 1961, he moved to the United States.
