His father was István Barbély, his mother was Rozália Kovács, and he had nine siblings. He entered the Marianus Province in 1933, taking his simple vows on August 27, 1934, and his perpetual vows on August 20, 1937. He was ordained a priest on January 30, 1938. His name is recorded in several variations; according to the Franciscan directory, it is Barbély. According to the Myheritage.hu website, he died in 1988.
