Biographical data
He joined the order on March 23, 1939. During World War II, he served in the Hungarian army; at the end of the war, he was stranded in Germany with his division and was unable to return to Romania. The Minister General of the Franciscan Order then sent him to Florence, where he worked for the Quaracchi publishing house.
He arrived in the U.S. in the late 1960s. For 11 years, he was the monastery’s cook. He was famous for his delicious soups, goulash, and sauerkraut dishes.
He was a very devout man. Every day, he could be seen praying the rosary in the side chapel of the sanctuary or outdoors. He also often walked through the Stations of the Cross. In 1989, he received the Cross of Merit from the Order of Vitéz. He remained in Youngstown even after the custody was dissolved.
