Titular Bishop of Castellum Medianum
Bishop to Hungarians Living Abroad (1983–1987)
His grandfather was a carpenter, and his father was a municipal official who had previously been a candidate for the Piarist Order. In 1941, he graduated from the Piarist High School in Szeged. During his high school studies, he won first place in Hungarian language and literature at the national high school academic competition. On August 27 of the same year, he entered the Piarist Order in Vác. In 1945, he graduated with a degree in theology in Budapest, then went to Germany in 1946, where he took his solemn vows on July 12, 1947. He was ordained a priest in Rome on March 13, 1948. In 1952, he earned a doctorate in philosophy from the Angelicum University.
He was elected a member of the Society of Canon Law, the Society of Catholic Theologians, and the Federation of Catholic Philosophers.
He received his episcopal appointment on May 21, 1983, and was consecrated bishop in Washington, D.C., USA, on July 27, 1983. His grave is located at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
