He entered the order on December 29, 1944. He took his simple vows on November 5, 1946, and his solemn vows on September 8, 1949. He completed his theological studies between 1947 and 1955 at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselm in Rome, where he earned a doctorate in theology. He was ordained a priest on July 11, 1952.
