István Anzelm Horváth, OSB, was a Benedictine high school teacher specializing in Hungarian and Latin and a pastor to the diaspora. He entered the Order of Saint Benedict at Pannonhalma on August 8, 1920; he took his solemn vows on September 11, 1925, and was subsequently ordained a priest. After a brief period teaching in Kőszeg and Budapest, he taught at the Benedictine high school in Esztergom from 1929 to 1934. In addition to his teaching duties, he preached, gave religious and cultural lectures, led field trips, directed plays, and served as a contributor to the newspaper *Esztergom és Vidéke*.

In 1934, at his own request, he traveled to Brazil to join the pastoral care of Hungarian Catholics in São Paulo and the surrounding area. Initially, he lived at the Abbey of St. Benedict in São Paulo; later, alongside Arnold Szelecz and other Hungarian Benedictines, he participated in the establishment of the Hungarian pastoral center in Vila Anastácio, known as “New Pannonhalma.” He assumed central leadership of the Hungarian parish and oversight of its associations; he preached, heard confessions, and also helped organize the cultural and social life of the Hungarian community. The St. Stephen the King Hungarian Parish was established during his tenure. In 1938, he led a group of Hungarian pilgrims from Brazil to the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest.

He regularly sent letters and reports from Brazil to the press in Esztergom. In São Paulo in 1938, he edited a prayer book titled *Saint Stephen*, and after his return, he published a study titled *The Hungarian Community in Brazil*. Due to the state of war that arose between Brazil and Hungary in 1942 and the restrictions imposed on immigrant communities, he left the country. After his return, he provided information to the relatives of Hungarians in Brazil at the office of the World Federation of Hungarians, and then taught in Komárom and Kőszeg. From 1948, he worked as a caretaker in Zalaapáti. He died on May 1, 1950, in Keszthely.
