Biographical data
His parents were Antal Hümpfner, a farmer, and Zsuzsanna Temmer. He entered the order on August 28, 1901. He took his first vows on September 12, 1905, and his final vows on June 25, 1908. He was ordained a priest by Bishop Károly Hornig of Veszprém on July 8, 1908. He earned his doctorate in theology in 1911 at the University of Innsbruck. In addition to his native German, he read and wrote in Hungarian, Latin, French, Italian, and Serbian. During the Hungarian Soviet Republic, when he was unable to teach religion, he worked as a gardener at the Horticultural Training Institute on Ménesi Road. In 1930, as secretary to the general abbot, he traveled throughout Europe and Canada, visiting numerous Cistercian architectural sites and collecting literature and postcards about them; he also visited Hungarian parishes in Canada to explore the possibility of establishing a new one there. He died of prostate and bladder cancer and was buried in Felsőörs; Sándor Klempa, Apostolic Administrator of Veszprém, attended the funeral, as did Vendel Endrédy.
