Biographical data
His parents were István Marton, a police officer, and Mária Zirig; his brother was Antal Bernát Marton, O.Cist. He completed his high school studies in Budapest at the St. Imre Cistercian High School. He entered the Order on August 29, 1943. He took his first vows on August 30, 1944. From 1944 to 1947, he was a theology student in Zirc. He left Hungary on September 23, 1947, and stayed first in Heiligenkreuz; then, from 1947 to 1949, he was a theology student in Salzburg. He took his perpetual vows in Mehrerau together with Demén Dózsa and Boldizsár Szarka, with Balázs Fűz presiding, on March 21, 1949. He was ordained a priest by Archbishop Josef Skvireckas of Kaunas at the Jesuit church in Innsbruck on May 22, 1949. In 1951, he emigrated to the United States. He earned a master’s degree in Latin and German.
