Biographical data
An American-born Roman Catholic priest of Hungarian descent, he was a Franciscan friar and later a diocesan pastor. He served for decades in the state of Michigan and later in Florida, where he served as a parish priest and diocesan judge for the Diocese of Venice. Thanks to his knowledge of Hungarian, he also provided pastoral care to the Hungarian Catholic community in Florida for a long time.

He was born on May 16, 1945, in Jackson, Michigan, to a family of Hungarian descent. From childhood, he was raised in a bilingual environment, which played a decisive role in his later pastoral ministry. In 1966, he entered the Capistran Province of the Franciscan Order, named after St. John of Capistrano. After completing his novitiate, he pursued studies in philosophy in Detroit, then prepared for the priesthood at St. Anthony-on-Hudson Theological Institute in Washington and at St. Thomas University in Miami. He took his solemn vows in 1972 and was ordained a priest on June 2, 1973.

He began his priestly ministry in the Franciscan Order. His first assignments were in New Jersey, after which he was transferred to Michigan. In 1979, he was appointed to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish community in East Lansing, where he also served as chaplain for the Catholic student ministry at Michigan State University. In addition to providing pastoral care to college students, he also taught and participated in continuing education programs in Belgium and Canada on several occasions. In 1980, he completed his studies at the University of Debrecen.

In 1994, he left the Franciscan Order and was incardinated into the Diocese of Lansing. As a diocesan priest, in addition to his parish ministry, he was entrusted with increasingly significant roles in church governance. In 2012, he was appointed pastor of St. Martha Parish in Okemos, while also serving as the diocesan Judicial Vicar and as a diocesan judge. He applied his knowledge of canon law both in his pastoral ministry and in the diocese’s judicial work.

In 2015, he was transferred to the Diocese of Venice, Florida, where he became pastor of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Parish in Sarasota. At the same time, he assumed pastoral care of the Hungarian Catholic faithful in Florida. He regularly celebrated Mass in Hungarian in Sarasota, Venice, and other Hungarian communities in Florida, thus becoming one of the best-known pastors among the Hungarian diaspora in the state.

In addition to his parish ministry, he served as a diocesan judge for the Diocese of Venice and participated in the work of several diocesan bodies. His pastoral work was held in high esteem by both Hungarian and American parishioners. In March 2026, he retired after completing his service as administrator of St. Bernard Parish in Holmes Beach.
